Virus Warning Emails

You may receive from time to time an email from a friend or colleague and usually copying in a number of other people about an email doing the rounds they claim is dangerous and you should look out for.

If you know the sender well and ask them to stop wasting your bandwidth and theirs. Here's why...

  • Most virus warnings are hoaxes
  • Some contain a virus or Trojan
  • Some pretend to offer good advice and provide instructions to delete an important system file or leave your system open to infection

If you update your virus definitions daily, keep your system patched and follow good email practices then you really can't do much more to protect yourself, short of unplugging your computer and never using it again.
